Subspecies of Humans

『Subspecies of Humans』 は、その前に書いた文章です(2009)。しかし、今も変わらず、わたしの気分はこんな感じです。次回、2014年1月に29日に発表されたことについて書きたいと思っています。

In October, 2009, the complete female skeleton was reconstructed from the Ardipithecus ramidus fossil. She was nicknamed “Ardi”, the oldest ancestor of humans.

According to LIFE---An Unauthorized Biography, by Richard Fortey, we have evolved through the process of Anthropoid, Ape-Man, Primitive Man and Human beings, simply speaking. But there is an interesting idea that some different kinds of ape-men coexisted in the earlier stages. For instance, anthropologists think that the Neanderthals (600,000~350,000 to 24,000 years ago) are either classified as a subspecies of humans (Homo sapiens neanderthalensis) or as a separate species (Homo neanderthalensis). In other words, there existed a diversity of “would-be humans” in those days and the human beings at the present time won the race of the biodiversity in the end.

Although we won the game, there could be a lot of examples that seemingly extinct creatures have been barely alive somewhere in a nook of the earth. Furthermore, in the case of plants or insects, researchers have continued making discoveries of new species. Then there’s no wonder that different “humans” have been still surviving in unknown places. Homo floresiensis, discovered in 2003 on the island of Flores in Indonesia, is classified as the subspecies of Homo sapiens and said they remained until 12,000 years ago. Humans also have been living there since 35,000 years ago, so it is true that different “would-be humans” existed together down to recent times. Or there was the eye-witness evidence of their existence until the 19th century and some people still believe that they are alive even now. In a sense, not only are we “humans” in this world, but some subspecies of humans like the Abominable Snowman could possibly exist somewhere on the earth.

While thinking about these, it reminded me of Katikujinn Yapoo, written by Numa Shouzoh. The book title, Katikujinn Yapoo, comes from Gulliver’s Travels, Part A Voyage to Houyhnhnms by Jonathan Swift. Yapoo is an analogy of Yahoo and Katikujinn means domesticated people. This narrative appeared in a magazine serial for the first time in 1956. The book belongs to the literary genre of SF/SM. The author, Numa Shousoh was an anonymous author who has not been revealed his identity yet. It is said that the famous writer wrote this long sequence under an assumed name such as the famous French novelists Mandiargues or Bataille had written pornographic books anonymously. There have been floated some famous writer’s names since it was published, in which the names of Mishima Yukio or Shibusawa Tatsuhiko are shown.

The book is like this. In the future world, the Imperial Government, called the EHS (The Empire of Hundred Suns), rules the earth. The world consists of the white race (Human beings), the black race (Semi-humans) and Japanese (Yapoo). The yellow races except the Japanese somehow were extinct. The rulers state that the Japanese is not human beings but a kind of the intelligent Ape-Man. Consequently, they mate Yapoos to improve the breed and utilize them for a variety of purposes like from food to pets.

The Japanese young man named Rin-itiroh and his German fiancée Klara, who are alive at the present time, are involved in an accident in which a flying saucer, which has come from the future world, has crashed into the earth. Then they are invited to the EHS. The white women rule the EHS and the males do not have even property rights. Klara, who is a white woman, and Rin-itiroh, who is a Japanese man, come into this future world. So Klara, of course, is treated favorably as a noble, and on the other hand, Rin-itiroh is reborn as a modified dog and becomes her pet. The story is about his conflict before being modified and his way of living after being modified.

This book, which I read when I was around twenty, is such an awful one but nowadays the science and technology has broken into other creatures’ lives and also has toyed with them. To say more, while the science is growing interminably, it could occur that someday a person might be pointed out, “You are not a human. Your DNA subtly includes something different from humans’.” It is possible that DNA from a subspecies of human are in hiding in the body because “they” and “we” once lived together in the same field, isn’t it? My fancy is also interminable……..

It is redundant, but Katikujinn Yapoo has been filmed and would be released in 2010.
